Single Disc Cutter

The Single Disc Cutter is the primary TBM excavation tool, positioned as face, transition, or gauge cutters. Composed of a ring, shaft, and bearings, its design ensures easy maintenance. It fractures rock (UCS 25–180MPa) such as granite and sandstone through rolling indentation and crack coalescence, handling the bulk of tunnel fragmentation. It is available in Back-loading (industry standard for safety) or Front-loading configurations.

Single Insert Disc Cutter

A type of disc cutter in which a series of cemented carbide button inserts are embedded into the cutter ring, replacing the conventional continuous cutting edge. Variants include single-disc cutters with button inserts, twin-disc center cutters with button inserts, and gauge cutters with button inserts. Classified as impact-resistant tooling, this design represents an upgraded alternative to smooth-profile (kerf) disc cutters.
